The Association of Independent Producers (Singapore), or AIPRO, is the first professional body representing the interests of organisations from all quarters of the independent production industry in Singapore.

Among them are pioneering companies who have managed to raise the profile of the industry with their productions – garnering local and international awards and accolades, and securing worldwide distribution rights and sales for their outstanding productions. From BBC to Discovery Channel, and from Animal Planet to National Geographic Channel, exceptional content produced by the Association members have screened to audiences not just in Singapore, but around the world. Beyond our national broadcaster, programmes of Asian content developed by AIPRO members have managed to sail beyond local shores for international consumption, contributing to the expanding global footprint of Made-by-Singapore productions. The hallmark of the Association members stems from their unique ability to harness local and regional stories and infuse them with strong universal appeal and resonance.

Recognising that more diverse media platforms will increasingly emerge resulting from the consolidation of television, telecommunications and the web, AIPRO, as a pragmatic and forward looking association has decided to extend its representation beyond just independent broadcast production companies, to include other sectors such as animation, and interactive digital media (IDM. As the representative body of the local independent production industry, the Association’s mandate includes: providing a platform for its members and industry stakeholders to network and explore co-production opportunities; organising overseas trade missions to showcase Singapore’s content development capabilities; promoting industry best practices and manpower skills upgrading; and maintaining the all important bridge between media institutions and industry requirements.  AIPRO has been working closely with the polytechnics and schools , to organize Industries Induction seminars. The objective is to prepare students to have a better pictures of how the industries function.

Additionally, through embedding elements of desired public values into local productions targeted at Singaporeans, the local independent production industry also serves as a significant driver in fostering a stronger and more enduring Singaporean identity and social fabric, especially through those public television programmes supported by the IMDA. Being aware that the role of the Association has both economic and social significance, it is important that sufficient resources be made available to it so that it can drive its mandate in a more effective and efficient manner.

In this all-wired era, the production, consumption, and understanding of media and content creation are all important. Evolving from TV into online and other forms of visual programming and content – AIPRO, as the only professional body that looks after the interests of the local independent producers, is well placed to lead its represented industry into the next wave of growth and make a mark in the fast evolving knowledge-based economy.
